Occupancy Data Is Not Workplace Intelligence.

Why Smart Buildings Still Make Dumb Decisions

The keynote

The number is only the beginning.

Smart buildings produce more data than ever, yet better measurements do not automatically create better workplace decisions.

The presentation follows the gap between utilisation, behaviour, collaboration and real business outcomes. Technology can reveal where space is used. Understanding whether it supports the work takes workplace strategy, operational context and accountable judgement.

The practical test is simple: what supports the recommendation, who controls the decision, and does it still hold after circumstances change?

01

What supports it?

Separate measurements, supplier claims, assumptions and evidence of fit. A credible source is not automatically sufficient for your decision.

02

Who controls it?

Let technology analyse and recommend. Keep the organisation responsible for objectives, permitted interventions and what success means.

03

Does it still hold?

Follow the effects of each intervention. Revisit the original decision when people, work, technology or circumstances change.

Independent judgement. Throughout the cycle.

Independence means no assessed product has to win. Evidence and organisational needs guide the choice, while the reasons and consequences remain open to challenge after implementation.
